Clebe McClary

"Take a stand for what?s good, what's right, what's Godly: What NAA stands for!"

Lt. Patrick Cleburne "Clebe" McClary began his life on a traditional southern plantation in the South Carolina lowlands. He felt that his life goals were complete upon becoming engaged to his perfect southern belle and gaining a coaching job at college. However, an event on campus forever changed his life. After witnessing the burning of the American flag during a demonstration against the Vietnam War, Clebe became incensed and enlisted in the marines. He hoped that by personally supporting his country he could bring change to the minds of his fellow Americans and help win the war overseas.
Newly married, Clebe set out to Vietnam as a platoon leader of the 1st Recon Battalion. Clebe and his unit faced life-or-death challenges daily in the jungles, but his 19th recon would prove the most devastating. Deep in hostile territory, his unit engaged in fierce hand-to-hand combat with the Vietnamese soldiers. In the bloody struggle, Clebe lost both his arm and left eye. Critically injured, Clebe continued to lead his men until they reached safety.
Although the combat in itself was traumatic, the following road to recovery challenged Clebe and in ways he never imagined. Clebe spent two years hospitalized and underwent more than 30 critical surgeries, followed by continual physical therapy. With the support of his loving wife, Deanna McClary, as well as his devotion to God, Clebe never gave up hope that he would have a fulfilling life. Miraculously, Clebe recovered from his devastating injuries. Doctors told him he would never stand up on his own, but through perseverance, he was able to recover the full use of his legs, including walking.
During this time of personal trial, Lt. Clebe McClary gained the personal fortitude that attracts so many people to him today. He now serves as an inspiration to not only fellow American soldiers, but anyone who has doubted their ability to achieve their finest. He has received a list of honors from the Marines, including three purple hearts, a silver star, and a bronze star.
Clebe brought his message of hope and inspiration to the public by publishing his first book, Living Proof. It stands as an inspirational tale of tenacity and bravery. His source of strength, Deanna, also published a book, Commitment to Love , which chronicles the trials and successes of their marriage. Clebe now serves as an inspirational speaker for people around the world; he's spoken in all 50 states of the United States, as well as 30 foreign countries. He is a designated speaking professional by the National Speaker's Association.
